Internal Funding
This site describes the internal funding awards at 91ÖÆƬ³§, how to apply for these Awards, and the review process used to evaluate applications. Any questions should be referred to Dr. Mallory Havens, Director of Scholarly initiatives. Overload is not permitted if the award includes course reassignment time except in extenuating circumstances.
The 91ÖÆƬ³§ Faculty Scholar Award six credit hours of reassignment time to be used within one academic year. Only faculty within CoB, CoESS, and CoHFAC are eligible. Three awards are given annually with one reserved for a pre-tenured faculty member.
The Caterpillar Scholar Award provides up to $ 6,000 for The purchase of supplies, equipment, or to purchase reassignment time for projects in the STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics). This award is designated for one academic year.
- Up to three awards of six credit hour course work release, to be used within one academic year, may be provided per year.
- One Caterpillar Scholar Award may be awarded per year.
- All full-time faculty at 91ÖÆƬ³§ are eligible to apply.

All the applications below are due November 11, 2024.
Research Initiation Awards:
Four awards for $3000 for projects that were not previously funded will be reserved for faculty within CoB, CoESS, and CoHFAC.
Brother Lawrence Oelschlegel Writing Fellowship Award:
One award of twelve hours of course reassignment time to a writing intensive project. Only faculty within CoB, CoESS and CoHFAC are eligible.
Brother Bernard Rapp Research Fellowship:
Two awards will be given annually. These awards issue 12 hours of course reassignment for a single semester with $25,000 for equipment, supplies, and travel. You may not overload courses on top of this course reassignment unless specifically approved by the Dean and the Office of Academic Affairs because of extenuating circumstances. Only faculty in CoAST and CoNHS are eligible.
Brother Bernard Rapp Research Focus Award:
Three awards will be given annually. These awards issue 6 hours of course reassignment each semester (12 total) in an academic year with $10,000 for equipment, supplies, and travel. You may not overload courses on top of this course reassignment unless specifically approved by the Dean and the Office of Academic Affairs because of extenuating circumstances. Only faculty in CoAST and CoNHS are eligible.
STEM Research Initiation Awards:
Four awards of $3000 will be given annually for projects that have not previously been funded. Only faculty in CoAST and CoNHS are eligible.
Project Completion Award:
Four awards of six hours of course relief for manuscript or grant preparation. Alternatively, no course reassignment time but, instead, publication cost coverage. Only faculty in CoAST and CoNHS are eligible.
Sister Noel Dreska Fund for Lab Equipment and Materials:
An annual budget of $100,000 to purchase equipment and supplies to support research. The minimum proposal amount is $2,500. Multiple faculty will be funded in various amounts to the extent of the proposals. Only faculty in CoAST and CoNHS are eligible.
