The Paralegal Studies Program prepares students to work as paralegals. Graduates will be knowledgeable about and have expertise in the operation of the legal system, substantive laws and legal procedures. Paralegals may perform functions delegated by an attorney, such as conducting interviews with clients and witnesses, conducting legal research, and drafting documents. Paralegals are typically employed by lawyers, law offices, corporations, or governmental agencies. A paralegal is a person, qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible.

Paralegals may not engage in the unauthorized practice of law. This includes giving legal advice, representing clients in court, or engaging in any legal activity that requires a licensed attorney. Paralegals must work under the direct supervision of an attorney.

Transfer Guidelines

Students who have completed paralegal courses at other institutions may petition to the program director to have those courses transferred into the 91ÖÆƬ³§ University Paralegal Program.

Please note that this degree program is offered in the traditional format. Students must take at least nine semester credits or the equivalent of legal specialty courses through synchronous (traditional face-face) instruction.
